John Tatchell Freeman
Studied painting at Bath Academy of Art and at Chelsea School of Art and, since leaving college in 1980, has continued painting and he has diversified into etching and satirical cartooning.
He has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally, and is a freelance teacher and lecturer, running specialised courses at West Dean College, the Prince of Wales’ Drawing School and the Institute of Creative Arts.
He has lectured and given related demonstrations and performances at the Tate Gallery, the Barbican, the British Library and the Festival Hall and specialises in Eighteenth Century British Art.
John is also the author of several critically acclaimed books and is currently completing work on a book on Paris, the third in a trilogy, comprising 130 etchings and drawings. His most recent book on Portrait Drawing will be published early this year by the Crowood Press.
John's work is concerned with extending the grammar of depicting figures in an environment and exploring the potential using the legitimate vocabulary of fine art traditions.
